Placido Cardoso, MD

Placido Cardoso attended the first Medical School in Bissau “General RAUL DIAZ ARGUELLES” from 1986 to 1992, in the Faculty of Medicine, where he secured his medical degree in general practice and proceeded to study for his Masters in International Health in Denmark.
In terms of professional experience, he practiced as a Medical Doctor in various Health Centers in Guinea Bissau where he held several prominent positions in Health Care Facilities both in the capital city Bissau and in the health districts, particularly in the regions of Oio and Cacheu (North of Guinea-Bissau).
He became the Director General of Health of Guinea Bissau from 2006 to 2008 and the WAHO Liaison Officer for Guinea Bissau until he was appointed Director General of WAHO in January 2008.
He authored or co-authored several scientific papers including on the risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage and the use of misoprostol in reducing postpartum hemorrhage. Dr. Plácido M. Cardoso is a polyglot who is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English.
