Alan Lopez and Christopher Murray win the Gairdner Global Health Award

CHAMPS Global Partners Board member Alan Lopez and Christopher Murray, co-founders of the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD), have been selected for the John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award, an international award honoring the “world’s top scientists who have made outstanding achievements in global health research.”
The award recognizes the two professors’ foundational work with the Global Burden of Disease Study, which is widely used by governments, donors, and development partners to guide health policy and understand the impact of health programs.
CHAMPS’ Global Partners Board is a group of leaders in the field of global health that champion child health through evidence learned from CHAMPS. Prof. Lopez has dedicated his career to saving lives through the pursuit of better data, and the CHAMPS Network is honored to have his expertise guide our mission.
